Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is a government collegiate public state university located in Belagavi, Karnataka. Established on 1 April 1998 through the Visvesvaraya Technological University Act of 1994, the university is named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya, a renowned Indian civil engineer and statesman who served as the 19th Diwan of Mysore.

The university's main administrative center, known as 'Jnana Sangama' (meaning 'The Confluence of Knowledge'), is situated in Belagavi. VTU has expanded its reach with three regional centres in Bangalore, Kalaburagi, and Mysore, along with 16 extension centers and 13 Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) centers across its affiliated institutions. The university boasts approximately 2,305 departments recognized as research centers throughout Karnataka.

VTU offers a comprehensive range of academic programs. At the undergraduate level, students can pursue Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degrees. Postgraduate options include Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Architecture (MArch), Master of Science (MSc) by research, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), and doctoral (PhD) programs. The university provides both research-oriented degrees like MSc and PhD, as well as taught postgraduate programs. With its strategic approach to technical education, VTU aims to bring together various colleges under a unified academic framework, promoting sustainable development of technical education in line with state and national policies.

VTU library has a wide variety of 9800 books and 43693 journals on various study topics like science, engineering, management, current affairs, arts, commerce, banking, accounting and many other topics of interest. There is a separate reading room with an accommodating capacity of 240.

Visvesvaraya Technological University has created world class sports facilities with synthetic tennis court complex having four courts with facilities of coach rooms and also with spectator gallery capacity about 500 members. In addition to the outdoor sports facilities university provides indoor sports facilities like badminton hall, 8 table tennis halls, snooker hall, Chess room etc.
