The University of Mysore is a distinguished public state university located in Mysuru, Karnataka, India. Established on July 27, 1916, it holds the remarkable distinction of being the sixth oldest university in the Indian subcontinent and the first university in Karnataka. The university was founded through the collaborative efforts of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and Sir M. Visvesvaraya, making it a pioneering institution that was established outside of British-administered Indian provinces.

The university boasts impressive academic resources, including a comprehensive library housing over 800,000 books, 2,400 journal titles, and 100,000 journal volumes. Its main campus features modern facilities such as an amphitheater, auditorium, swimming pool, and hostel accommodations for both male and female students. As of July 2013, the University of Mysore was accredited with a 'Grade A' status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

In recent years, the university has demonstrated significant academic innovation. The International School of Information Management was created in 2005 through collaboration with multiple international universities, and the Department of Law was incorporated into the Mysore University School of Justice. The university's commitment to academic excellence is reflected in its motto, 'Na Hi Jñanena Sadrusham' (Nothing compares with knowledge), drawn from the Bhagavad Gita. In the 2024 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), the University of Mysore was ranked 54th among universities in India and 86th overall, highlighting its strong academic standing.

About University of Mysore Mysuru

The University maintains seven Men’s hostels and four Women’s hostels. All the hostels have basic amenities like water purifiers, common room, recreation room, mess, TV, laundry services, security, and surveillance system etc.For International Students there are two International Hostels with 90 spacious rooms, each with a balcony opening to the picturesque Kukkarahalli Lake. The independent rooms are equipped with space for study, internet connectivity, kitchenette facility, attached washrooms and enclosed chests for safekeeping of belongings. The International Hostel also houses two computer labs and a spacious dining hall cum kitchen complex. Students pursuing only Diploma/ Certificate courses are not eligible for hostel facilities.

The library has a collection of more than 7,00,000 books. It currently subscribes to more than 225 Indian Journals, 16 foreign journals, 24 popular magazines and 20 newspapers. It has around 15,000 reports and Govt. publications, 20000 Theses and Dissertations, 150,000 bound volumes of journals, 350 microforms; 40 audio cassettes, 38 video cassettes, and more than 50 CDROMs and 50 multimedia CDs on various aspects including National Geographic and Britannica Encyclopedia.
