Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (TNPESU) is a pioneering state-run university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, dedicated exclusively to physical education and sports. Established in 2005, it holds the distinction of being the first public sports university in India, marking a significant milestone in specialized higher education.

The university offers a comprehensive range of academic programs across multiple disciplines related to physical education and sports. Students can pursue various degrees including Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), Master of Physical Education (MPEd), Bachelor and Master of Science programs in areas such as Sports Coaching, Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, Sports Technology, Sports Management, Sports Psychology, and Yoga. These diverse programs reflect the university's holistic approach to sports education.

TNPESU operates as a residential university with five specialized departments: Physical Education, Yoga, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, Sports Psychology and Sports Management, and Advanced Sports Coaching and Sports Technology. The university currently comprises three faculties and ten affiliated colleges, including the YMCA College of Physical Education. Beyond traditional academic offerings, TNPESU actively engages in research, outreach activities, and collaborations, providing students with opportunities for professional development and networking in the sports and physical education sectors.

Library uses Nirmals PRO 4.2 library automation software; joined in SudhGanga project, a national repository of electronic theses and dissertations; done MOU with INFLIBNET centre, Ahmadabad for depositing electronic version of theses and dissertations.
