Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) is India's first dedicated aviation university, established as an Autonomous Central University located at Fursatganj Airfield in Uttar Pradesh. Established in 2018, the university was created through an Act of Parliament in 2013 under the administration of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Government of India.

The university was conceived to address the critical need for specialized technical and managerial training in aviation-related fields. Its core mission is to facilitate and promote comprehensive aviation studies, with a focus on diverse areas including aviation management, regulation and policy, aviation science and engineering, aviation law, safety and security, aviation medicine, search and rescue, and environmental studies related to aviation.

RGNAU has strategic collaborations with industry partners to enhance its academic offerings. For instance, the university has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with organizations like GMR Aviation Academy for joint postgraduate diploma programs, and Pawan Hans Limited for a dual aviation three-year Bachelor of Science program in aircraft operations. The university is designed to expand its infrastructure, with initial plans to develop 250 acres of land to support its academic and research initiatives.

Under the leadership of its first Vice Chancellor, Air Vice Marshal (retired) Nalin Tandon, RGNAU represents a significant national effort to develop specialized higher education infrastructure in the aviation sector, with the government sanctioning substantial funds for its establishment and development.
