Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) is a government institution located in Hisar, Haryana, established on December 1, 2010, through Haryana Act No. 7 of 2010. The university is named in honor of Lala Lajpat Rai, a prominent freedom fighter known as 'Punjab Kesri', who had historical connections to Hisar, having done his early legal practice in the city and served as a Member and Secretary of the Hisar Municipality.

LUVAS was created by incorporating the College of Veterinary Sciences and the College of Animal Sciences, which were previously part of CCS Haryana Agricultural University. The university aims to be a global center of educational excellence in veterinary science and animal husbandry. Its mission focuses on capacity building in the animal health care sector, supporting personnel at all levels from support staff to veterinary surgeons and specialized researchers.

The university is committed to learner-centric higher education anchored in research and innovation. It is guided by outstanding faculty and strengthened through national and international academic partnerships. LUVAS includes several key academic units, such as the College of Veterinary Sciences, College of Dairy Science and Technology, and the Institute of Para Veterinary Sciences (IPVS), which provides comprehensive educational opportunities in veterinary and animal sciences.
