Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is a government university established in December 2010 by the Government of Kerala. Located in Pookode, near Kalpetta in Wayanad District, the university's territorial jurisdiction covers the entire state of Kerala, focusing on education, research, and extension services in veterinary and animal sciences.

The university comprises eight constituent colleges, including the College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences in Pookode, which was formally inaugurated on 11 December 2004. Spread across 100 acres of scenic hilly terrain, the Pookode campus offers comprehensive academic programs including undergraduate (BVSc & AH), postgraduate (MVSc), and doctoral (PhD) programs in Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

KVASU received significant support from the government, including a one-time grant of Rs. 100 crore in the 2011-12 Union Budget. This funding was specifically allocated for developing eight research schools across its veterinary and dairy science colleges, focusing on areas such as animal production biotechnology, bio-energy, farm waste management, zoonoses, public health, and avian sciences. The university's first Vice-Chancellor, Dr. B Ashok, is an alumnus of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Mannuthy, highlighting the institution's commitment to nurturing talent from within its own academic ecosystem.

Central Instruments laboratory is the central facility with state-of-the art analytical instruments to fulfil the needs of the faculty and research scholars in the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kerala University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Trichur. Central Instrumentation Facility is well equipped with high value sophisticated instruments. The facilities are extensively used by Post Graduate Students, Doctoral Research Scholars and Sponsored Projects for Advanced Research. This facility is also extended to External Organisations, mainly academic institutions of the region on nominal chargeable basis.

The library being the heart of the University provides cutting-edge facilities and services to support research, teaching, learning, and scholarly communication across disciplines. It has good accommodation and excellent infrastructural facilities. It provides access to various national, international journals and periodicals in addition to an excellent collection of textbooks and reference books. There is also a separate collection of the thesis and dissertations, besides bound volumes of old journals. Facilities are also provided to students and faculty for access to internet and online journals.
