The University of Calcutta, commonly known as Calcutta University (CU), is a prestigious public state research university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Established on 24 January 1857, it holds the distinction of being the oldest multidisciplinary university in the Indian Subcontinent and the Southeast Asian Region. At its founding, the university had an extraordinary jurisdiction spanning from Kabul to Myanmar, though its current reach is more limited to a few districts of West Bengal.

The university boasts an impressive academic footprint, with 151 affiliated undergraduate colleges and 16 institutes in Kolkata and surrounding areas. It is spread across fourteen campuses throughout Kolkata and its suburbs.
