Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC), now known as Puducherry Technological University (PTU), is a government-funded technical institute located in Puducherry, Union Territory of India. Established in 1984 by the Ministry of Education under the Seventh Five Year Plan, the institution was created to meet the engineering education requirements of the region.

PTU offers a comprehensive range of academic programs, including nine undergraduate and thirteen postgraduate programs across core engineering disciplines. The university also provides MCA and PhD programs in engineering disciplines and basic sciences. Its 240-acre campus in Pillaichavady is situated approximately 12 km from Puducherry railway station and about 150 km south of Chennai, featuring modern infrastructure including departmental buildings, an auditorium, library, hostels, and students' amenities centre.

The university boasts 12 diverse departments, spanning technical fields such as Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, as well as foundational sciences like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. With a central library housing over 48,000 books and numerous national and international journals, PTU provides robust academic resources. The institution is ranked in the 201-300 band for Engineering by NIRF India Rankings 2024 and prides itself on its highly qualified faculty, with 98% holding doctoral degrees.

Puducherry Technological University was officially transformed from Pondicherry Engineering College on September 5, 2020, and was inaugurated by then Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on September 13, 2021. The university now functions as an affiliating, teaching, and research institution, focusing on technology, management, and science education while promoting innovation and research.

There are two boys hostels (for U.G students), one boys hostel (for P.G. students). The two boys hostels have the capacity to accommodate 270 students. The P.G. hostel has a capacity of 60 single rooms.
