The National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) University is a private technical research university located in Brahmapur, Odisha, India. Founded in 1996 by a group of academics and technocrats, the institution was promoted by SM Charitable Educational Trust under the vision of its founder Chairman Dr. Sukant Mohapatra. The university is situated on a spacious 70-acre campus in Pallur Hills, approximately 12 km from Brahmapur and three hours from the state capital, Bhubaneswar.

NIST offers a comprehensive range of academic programs across multiple disciplines. The College of Engineering provides bachelor's and master's degrees in various engineering streams, including Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering. The College of Management & Commerce offers an MBA program, while the College of Science provides B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology, and Data Science.

The university has a strong research-oriented approach and has been recognized for its innovative educational model. NIST was the first NRI educational venture in Odisha and the first engineering college under Berhampur University affiliation. It later became affiliated with Biju Patnaik University of Technology and acquired a unitary technical university status in 2024. The institution is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and emphasizes hands-on training and practical experience alongside classroom learning.
