The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is a prestigious government-run engineering college located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1949, the college is affiliated with Anna University Chennai and is situated on a sprawling 200-acre campus.

MIT was founded through the visionary efforts and generous donation of Mr. C. Rajam, who envisioned the need for specialized engineering education to support India's industrial development after independence. Unlike other engineering colleges at the time, MIT pioneered new fields of study such as Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Instrumentation Technology, offering these specialized programs to science graduates. This foresight has proven invaluable, as these disciplines have seen tremendous growth in India over the decades.

It has a total number of 9 hostels, 5 for boys and 4 for girls.It also provides accommodates hostel for NRI students. The hostels are provided with 24 hours water and electricity facilities.
