Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), located in Sarang, Odisha, is a government engineering institution with a rich history dating back to 1982. Originally established as the Odisha College of Engineering (OCE), the institute began its journey in 1981 as Modern Polytechnic (MPT), initially offering diploma courses in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Mining Survey Engineering.

In 1987, OCE and MPT merged and were renamed Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, with management transferred to an Autonomous Society. The institute has since achieved significant milestones, becoming the first Government Engineering College in Odisha to receive accreditation from NBA (AICTE). In 2014, the Government of Odisha decided to elevate IGIT to a unitary university, and in 2017, the University Grants Commission (UGC) granted the institute autonomous status.

The campus spans 179 acres and provides a comprehensive residential environment for students. It features extensive facilities including a Central Library with 27,000 volumes, a Central Computer Centre, Central Workshop, and eight student hostels accommodating over 1,300 students. The institute offers a wide range of academic programs, including Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Master of Technology (M.Tech), Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Master of Science (M.Sc), and doctoral programs.

IGIT provides undergraduate programs in multiple engineering disciplines, with NBA-accredited courses in Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering, alongside programs in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, and Metallurgy and Material Engineering. The institution continues to be a prominent center of technical education in Odisha, preparing students for diverse career opportunities in engineering and technology.
