Goa College of Engineering (GEC), located in Ponda, Goa, is a pioneering government engineering institution founded in 1967. As the oldest engineering college in Goa, it has established itself as a significant center of technical education with over 2,200 students currently enrolled.

The college offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programs. Initially starting with mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering courses, GEC has expanded its academic portfolio over the decades. Notable additions include electronics and telecommunications (1982), computer science (1988), information technology (2001), and mining engineering (2011). In 2022, the college introduced an electronics in VLSI course, reflecting its responsiveness to emerging industry trends.

GEC is recognized as a research institute under Goa University, with Ph.D. programs in multiple engineering disciplines including civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer science, and telecommunications. The college has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation for six of its branches, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining high academic standards. It also boasts one of the largest libraries in the state, housing over 86,000 books, journals, and magazines, and has established a memorandum of understanding with IIT Bombay to support academic and research collaborations.

The Farmagudi campus is a hub of technical education, sharing its location with the National Institute of Technology Goa and Indian Institute of Technology Goa. As part of its ongoing development, the college plans to establish an incubation centre to boost entrepreneurship, underscoring its mission to train students to become leaders and managers of technology with academic excellence.
