The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a government institute with a rich history in plastics and polymer engineering education. Established in 1968 through a collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and International Labor Organization (ILO), CIPET was created to address the lack of specialized plastics engineering institutions in India.

Affiliated with Anna University Chennai, CIPET serves as the headquarters for a network of 43 operational centers across the country. The institute is part of the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers and has gained recognition from prestigious organizations like DST, DRDO, and ISRO for its research and development projects. CIPET offers a comprehensive range of academic programs, including B.Tech in Plastic Technology and Manufacturing Technology at the undergraduate level, and M.Tech programs in Plastic Technology, Polymer Nano Technology, and CAD/CAM at the postgraduate level.

The institute is fully equipped with cutting-edge facilities in design, CAD/CAM/CAE, tooling and mold manufacturing, plastics processing, testing, and quality assurance. With government funding, CIPET consistently modernizes its machinery and technology to meet the evolving demands of the polymer and allied industries. Located in the T.V.K Industrial Estate in Guindy, Chennai, the institute provides students with a specialized learning environment focused on practical skills and technological innovation in the field of plastics engineering.
