Assam Engineering College (AEC), located in Jalukbari, Guwahati, is a pioneering government engineering institution established in 1955. As the first engineering college in Assam and North-Eastern India, AEC has played a significant role in technical education in the region.

The college offers a comprehensive range of academic programs, including bachelor's degrees (B.Tech) in eight engineering disciplines: Civil, Chemical, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication, Industrial and Production, Instrumentation, and Mechanical Engineering. Affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University since the 2017-18 academic year, AEC is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The college maintains a diverse student body, primarily from Assam, with fixed quotas for students from neighboring states. Its Department of Civil Engineering, established in 1956, was the first branch introduced and continues to be a cornerstone of the institution's academic offerings.
